Project Details

Below Zero provides high quality luxurious frozen treats that are a source of comfort, happiness and relaxation. This product line project presented consists of two Below Zero ice cream flavors and one sorbet flavor. I want to point out that the sorbet is part of a separate limited-edition line, Below Zero sorbet. Below Zero’s brand promise is using the best techniques, original recipes, processes and all-natural organic ingredients to create the most delicious and luxurious high-end frozen treats for our customers. At Below Zero, we take our time to make the best product possible.

Packaging Specifics

My product line includes two-pint (473 mL) sized of ice cream containers and one pint sized (473 mL) sorbet container. The size of these products is special because they fit in the customer’s hand and are personally sized. This size reemphasizes our brand because it implies that one could sit and indulge themselves in the ice cream by just eating out of the pint with a spoon. It also reemphasizes our tagline “Your new favorite treat you won’t want to share!”.

Packaging Specifics

These pint-sized containers are made of FSC Certified paperboard. Our paperboard has a polyethylene plastic-based coating. The coating provides a moisture barrier that keeps our ice cream in the best condition our consumers. Unfortunately, polyethylene is not widely recycled in the United States, but it is needed to ensure the quality of our product. The purpose of this design is to ensure that these products can be kept cold in the freezer without the material of the packaging disintegrating from the high levels of moisture.

Packaging Specifics

The paperboard that my packaging uses is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. This certification means that the pulp used to make the paperboard “comes from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits.” Many ice cream brands use this material and while there have been no new advances yet, work is being done to manufacture biodegradable coatings to replace the polyethylene plastic.
